Olympic Games 2024 thumbs-up for Rugby Sevens

Rugby Sevens on Friday received a powerful endorsement from the Olympic governing body.

The International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board will recommend to the next IOC Session to retain all 28 sports for the 2024 Olympic Games, including Rugby Sevens.

The recommendation, which will be considered at IOC Session in Lima in September, is an endorsement for one of the world’s fastest-growing sports. which was considered by many as one of the stand-out highlights on debut at the Rio Games.

Sevens was also widely considered as one of the stand-out highlights on debut at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The 2020 Olympic Games will be hosted by the Japanese capital of Tokyo, while currently, the bidders for the 2024 Games are Los Angeles (USA) and Paris (France).

Winners of the first-ever Olympic Rugby 7s medals were:

Gold: Fiji
Silver: Great Britain
Bronze: South Africa
