So much more to Sevens
I read today that the International Rugby Board (IRB) chairman Bernard Lapasset asked for more ‘pom-pom girls/fun/fun people‘ at the Tokyo Sevens next year… and I agree. While I enjoyed the return of the Game to the Japanese capital, especially the Japanese Manga tune when the teams ran onto the pitch, I do feel that the Japanese-edition of the HSBC Sevens World Series could do with a bit more razzmatazz on the stands.
Be that as it may, I want to share this video clip with you of one of my many experiences of the 2012 Tokyo Sevens. I think I have to because the Sevens, as is the nature of the HSBC Sevens World Series, is all about the game, but at the same time… all about the hosts. It’s about the city, the country and what it offers the Sevens tourist.
That is exactly what I wanted to be in Tokyo post the Sevens… a tourist.
That is why I stayed on in Tokyo for two days after Australia won the Cup Final vs. Samoa. To see a little more of the country, experience a little more of the people and the place that is Tokyo.
On the Monday post-Tokyo7s, I decided to take the Shinkansen (the bullet-train) down south to Shizuoka and, being the old-skool guy that I am… I hooked up my iPod, selected old-skool R.E.M. tune and captured this video:
See you at the Tokyo7s in 2013!
