Digicel Fiji 7s team head coach Alivereti Dere has named a 16 man squad to prepare for the next stage of the HSBC Sevens Word Series – the Hong Kong 7s on 23-25 March and the Japan 7s the following week.

Missing from the squad is top rated scrumhalf Emosi Vucago (pictured below) who has opted to pursue a playing career in the United States. While Vucago’s experience will be sorely missed within the team Dere believes he has ample cover in Joji Raqamate and Nikola Matawalu.

Vucago is a great player and obviously we’d love to have him, however he’s opted to further his career overseas and good luck to him” Dere said.

As cover I’ve brought in Joji Ragamate and Nikola Matawalu and I believe both players have the potential to excel in the scrumhalf position.”

Also in the 16 man squad is Savusavu speedster Isimeli Taqea who’ll be hoping to impress at next weekend’s Marist 7s in an effort to book a place in the final 12-member squad to Hong Kong and Japan.

The squad will march into camp this Sunday and will use next weekend’s Marist 7s as final preparation for the Hong Kong 7s.

The full squad is:

FORWARDS: Apisai Naiyabo, Jimilai Naikadawa, Timoci Vakadranu, Setefano Cakaunivalu, Levani Botia, Nemani Nagusa, Waisea Nayacalevu

BACKS: Joji Ragamate, Ilai Tinai, Sikeli Vuruna, Isimeli Taqea, Joeli Lutumailagi, Mitieli Nacagilevu, Avenisi Vasuinubu, Nikola Matawalu, Metuisela Talebula
