Almost exactly 2 years ago, Kyle Brown was appointed to the hot-seat of the Springbok Sevens Team. And if you know anything about the fanatic rugby culture in South Africa, you will appreciate that statement.
Coach Paul Treu decided that the former SACS and UCT flanker/eighthman should take over where others have tread with great success. Leaders like Mpho Mbiyozo and Mzwandile Stick have gone before and have gone on to Provincial rugga… plowing back what they have experienced and learned with the Blitzbokke. Former captain and soon-to-be-daddy Neil Powell still serves the Blitzbokke well. (Stay well Tanya and Neil.)
Fast forward to 2012 and Brown is still there. At the head of the pack and very much leading from the front. The mullet has gone but the awkward yet effective running style has remained.
BlitzBokke.com has paid tribute to Kyle Brown many a time over the past two years, and today we will do (as they say here in Asia) same-same, wishing our Skipper a very happy birthday.
As he leads his defending-USA-Sevens-Champs en-route to Las Vegas, Kyle Brown turns 25 today.
Happy Birthday, Bro.
