As the most experienced commentator on the Sevens circuit, Nigel Starmer-Smith is in a unique position to express expert opinion on players. He is known as ‘the voice of Sevens’ after all.
In his latest article on irbsevens.com, Starmers lists his ‘Seven players to watch this season.’
One of the seven includes the Springboks’ own Robert Ebersohn (pictured below). Although only on loan from the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, Robert will do duty for the Blitzbokke during the first 2-legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series. An experienced, former contracted SA Sevens player, he is expected to return to Bloemfontein after the Dubai Sevens to prepare for the Super15 season.
This is what Starmer-Smith had to say:
They will miss their player of the year, Cecil Afrika, in Australia, but he is most likely to be back for Dubai. But with Branco du Preez and Renfred Dazel they are in fine fettle. I would like to pick out the returning Robert Ebersohn however who is a big boost to their chances. He is still only 22, but he has now committed himself to Sevens, is a superb midfield player, allusive, skillful, and with everyone around him you need to watch out for this South Africa back division.
