The South African Rugby Awards takes place tonight at 19h30 (South African time).

In my honest opinion, it will be a bitter-sweet affair; with the senior Springbok team coming off what was generally a disappointing Rugby World Cup.

However, as the Lions will attest to, there is still some pride left in South African rugby. (pun absolutely intended)

A couple of team awards will be up for grabs this evening (01h30 Hong Kong time) but it’s surely the individual accolades that will be the most sought-after at the event.

The Springbok Sevens, coming off yesterday’s ‘nappy-gate‘ has been nominated in two categories:

ABSA Team of the Year as well as Coach of the Year (Paul Treu).

The Sevens Player of the Year has also been decided as will be announced on the night.

I had cancelled my DSTV subscription shortly after RWC2011 so I’m going to be flying blind during the Awards. However, fear not as @BlitzBokke and @BokRugby (and I’m sure Supersport) will be tweeting live from the event.

I will be staying up till the end (around 3am my time) and will bring you all the news (winners) from the Awards Evening.

Stay close or simply add @BlitzBokke if you’re on Twitter…
