The Springbok Sevens Team has been calling on Dubai for as long as they have been participating in the IRB’s Sevens World Series (now called the HSBC Sevens World Series).
So much so that they have been making friends in the Arabian desert city whenever they were in town for the Emirates Dubai Rugby 7′s tournament.
Prior to the 2011/12 season, the Dubai 7s used to be the traditional opening event of the global Sevens Rugby roadshow. This year, however, the Series will kick off on Australia’s Gold Coast (25-26 November) followed by Dubai a week later (2-3 December).
The BlitzBokke have been regulars at Dubai’s Jumeirah English Secondary School in the city’s Arabian Ranches area, where they would make use of the school’s excellent facilities to prepare for their own ‘rumble in the desert‘ The Emirates Dubai Rugby 7′s.
So has the friendship grown that the school community kindly decided to sponsor much-needed rugby jerseys to be distributed among schools from Cape Town’s impoverished townships.
The Springbok Sevens squad today delivered on the goodwill gesture when they visited Hindle Road Secondary School in Delft to hand over kits to representatives of the selected schools.
