Your Question:
How would you have liked to have Mat Turner in your squad? He played with Kyle Brown in the UCT varsity cup team 2008. – GoRex
Answer:
Thank you for your question. We had a similar question previously and my view on this matter is still the same. Matt is a great player and doing exceptionally well for England. Unfortunately, we couldn’t accommodate him when we won the World Series in 2009 and by the time we wanted to invite him to our camp, he has already decided to play for England.

Your Question:
Paul, thank you for all you have done for our Sevens Rugby. You are a GREAT coach. – Thelma
Answer:
Thank you for the kind words Thelma, much appreciated. Credit must also go to our management and players because a coach is only as good as the people around him.

Your Question:
Hi Paul, how important is it to keep changing your game plan to stay ahead of the other teams? – Jason
Answer:
Very important Jason! All the teams on the circuit make use of game analysis to establish the strength and weaknesses of opponents. It is therefore crucial to keep innovating and developing new ideas.

Your Question:
What is the criteria for appointing a coach to a national team? – Theo
Answer:
This is a tough question Theo and should be directed to SA Rugby instead. I know that SARU has a good and transparent process in place for all appointments. I played for and captained the Springbok sevens Team before I was appointed as National Coach.

Your Question:
I am not certain about the criteria followed for countries to qualify for Rugby World Cup.Please help. – Mandla Mtshali
Answer:
Hi Mandla. I am not sure if you are referring to Fifteens or Sevens, but will explain the process with regards to Sevens. The top eight teams who made it to the Cup Quarter Finals of the previous Sevens World Cup are given automatic qualification. The rest of the sixteen teams have to qualify through their regional tournaments. I Hope this helps.
