I’m not one to rejoice at a player’s misfortune or injury, but something I heard during the Reds vs. Brumbies match tonight (Saturday 4 June 2011) really made me smile.
It has to go down as one of the classic pieces of rugby commentary of the season.

According to BigFooty.com, Williams, a fan of planking, did this as his try-celebration. Ironically the post on BigFooty.com compared Williams’ effort to that of Ioane’s turtle.
Serious injury
Reds speedster Digby Ioane was stretchered off the field during the match between Queensland Reds and the ACT Brumbies at Suncorp Stadium.
Ioane was severely injured in the second half as the Brumbies appeared on course for victory at 19-14.
A prone, face-down Ioane was adjudged to be “involuntarily planking” by the match commentator after he went down heavily during a collision.

On Twitter a few minutes later, a friend commented “a few weeks ago Digby Ioane did the turtle, tonight he did the plank!”
Get well soon, Digby.
