While making a tribute video for Sbura Sithole‘s 21st birthday, I remember my own (errr, whmmmm) something years ago.
Unlike the culture in my Cape Town community, I didn’t have the whole party-in-a-municipal-hall-complete-with-ushers-and-speeches-and-the-21st-key thing.
Instead, I celebrated my 21st with some close friends (a friend who would eventually become my Missus, included) on a 2-week trek through the (then) Eastern Transvaal taking in places like Sabi, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck, etc. We only had what was contained in our backpacks to see us through the 2 week hike. However, I can tell you that, getting a (very public) hot-water bath AND a birthday cake made in a hiking-pot over a fire, was the ultimate gift that a hall-full-of-guests couldn’t surpass.
Today (Tuesday 14th June 2011) is the 21st birthday of one of our BlitzBokke: Sibusisu Sbura Sithole.
I wish him everything of the best on his big day and that he will have as special a day.
