Crusaders fans, the Cape Town media and the large cabal of Cape Town-based All Blacks/Saders fans may have been gagga about Sonny Bill Williams‘ debut at Newlands this past weekend, but Springbok coach Peter De Villiers is not impressed by the former league-player-turned-boxer-turned-union-rugby-player.
“I hope he (SBW) will mature in his game, but he’s doing everything wrong,” De Villiers told Union Sports Mag.
“What rugby principles require of you in a game… I mean, back-hand passes shouldn’t be the norm. (Because of Williams) It has become the norm. Now everybody wants to do those kind of nonsense.” he added.
Have a look and listen to more of Peter De Villiers’ mutterings:

Dearest peter..back hand passes are not the norm, however SBW is not a normal rugby player!3 weeks ago u stated sonny bill has only looked good because he has not come up against quality centres, and that you were looking forward to how he coped against de villiers and fourie!well I watched the game, and he was exceptional!althought his style is unique and flamboyant,it works for him,and it gets the results!u also contradict yourself by saying it is not good for rugby!as u have often defended the springboks dinosaur players and their style of rugby by saying “it wins games”. Well SBW and his team have used the flamboyant style against south africa’s two top sides and have beaten both of them.I really hope u can swallow your pride and admit a world class player when u see him!regards a passionate stormers and springbok fan
