Taiwan, or as the International Rugby Board (IRB) insists we call the country, Chinese Taipei, is not dragging their feet when it comes to hosting a big tournament.
The city (and my former hometown) will be hosting the Taipei International Rugby Tens on Saturday, 21 May, 2011
The venue will the BaiLin Riverside Park Rugby Field (If you can read Chinese: 百齡河濱公園橄欖球場 OR if you can read Maps: Click here)
As any rugby day in Taipei has become known for, the Taipei Tens promises to be a big family day out with braais (Yes… I said braais!) beer and lots of food available.
There will also be tents for the (local) Mmes to hide from the sun or for everybody to take shelter should it rain.
Teams taking part on the day include:
ANZACS, SAFFAS, Lions, Rest of the World, Japan and Taiwan.
I will make the flight to Taipei if only for the after-party which will take place at one of my old haunts: The Brass Monkey on Taipei’s Fushing North Road. The squire of “The Monkey” was the dude draped in a huge Taiwan flag in Wan Chai on HK Sevens weekend! (You owe me a coupla pints for this Max!)
