The Daily Yomiuri in Japan reported today that the 53rd annual YC&AC Japan Rugby Sevens tournament was called off Thursday as a result of the ongoing crisis facing the nation.

The tournament, which traditionally features a number of Top League, university and club teams, was set to be held on April 3 at the Yokohama Country & Athletic Club.

Simon Ryan, president of the YC&AC rugby section said the club would try to reschedule the tournament for a later date, though that could prove difficult as teams are generally committed to the spring 15-a-side season.

A decision on the inaugural Tokyo Sevens–set for April 16-17 at Chichibunomiya Stadium–would be made  on Friday by the Japan Rugby Football Union.
