Springbok Sevens player and HSBC Sevens World Series top scorer Cecil Afrika was last night awarded the Lesley Williams Trophy.
The 3-person judging panel selected 6 players on a shortlist of candidates. However, as all 3 judges chose Cecil as their preferred candidate for the Best & Fairest Player Award, the deal was sealed for the dread-locked playmaker.
Other players who made the judges’ short-list and who received an honourable mention include: Tim Mickleson (NZ), Tom Josefu (Samoa), Tomasi Cama (NZ), Philip Mack (Canada) and Frank Halai (NZ).
Afrika still heads to IRB Ranking for the Player with the most points (88) as well as the Top Try-scorer (8).
