I spent an inspiring morning watching the Springbok Sevens team go through their paces at Hong Kong’s Kings Park.
Also in attendance was a group of youngsters from Soweto (in South Africa) who are in the city courtesy of the Laureus Foundation.
They boys from the Soweto Schools Rugby Programme must have been particularly impressed with the extra yards put in by coach Paul Treu and his coaching team in preparing 19-year old Tshotsho Mbovane for the rigors of international Sevens rugby.

The youngster is obviously raring to go as shown in the sequence of images below. I caught this special moment where the dimunitive Mbovane tackled one of the BlitzBokke strongmen Boom Prinsloo, tackled-bag and all! Judging from conditioning coach Allan Temple-Jones‘ body language, he obviously approved of Tshotsho’s effort.
(Boom means tree in Afrikaans)
