As I do after every tournament of the HSBC Sevens World Series, yesterday I trawled the web for people’s comments on the weekend’s successful USA Sevens.
Sevens and eveything that goes with a tournament is so varied from an international perspective that it’s interesting to read people’s comments afterwards.
I think from now on I will share with you what I have found interesting after every tournament. Here’s what I have found after the 2011 USA sevens:

USA stumbles, South Africa soars in USA Sevens Rugby Tournament in Las Vegas (Las Vegas Sun)
(Sunday, 13 February 2011)
With the popularity of Sevens and rugby in general on the up-and-up in the States, it’s interesting to read how even the US journos are trying to get to grip with the game, it’s tactics and (in the case with the Americans) it’s terminology. For example, NBC commentators this past weekend continually referred to the “end-zone” (in-goal area) and “dug-out.”

New Zealand have been overwhelmed 26-7 by Fiji in their semifinal of the IRB world sevens rugby tournament in Las Vegas.
Coming off the high of their triumph at the Wellington tournament last weekend, Gordon Tietjens’ men were shut out by the rampant Fijians who had previously failed to fire a shot in the world series.
However, Fiji couldn’t lift for the final, where they were well beaten 24-14 by South Africa, writes www.theage.com.au (HERE)

Afrika, who returned after a broken jaw kept him out of the previous week’s tournament in Wellington, ended as the tournament’s leading scorer with 54 points in six matches from five tries, 13 conversions and a penalty. He is also the leading points and try-scorer in the 2011 series with 181 and 22 respectively. By Craig Ray (HERE)

“Before we left Wellington we had a bitterly frank team meeting.” Marco Botha quotes Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu. ”We realised that we have been omitting the basics from our preparation.”
Botha also reveals that Treu is currently reading for a PhD in sports psychology.
