The Springbok Sevens, whilst basking in the glory of their recent win at the Las Vegas Sevens, will be hosting a charity golf day at the spectacular De Zalze Golf Course on March 11, 2011.
The main beneficiary for this prestigious event will be the Bobs for Good Foundation.
The Bobs For Good Foundation has already contributed over 14 500 pairs of shoes to learners throughout South Africa and the South Africa Sevens Players Trust hopes to increase that number substantially through the Golf Day.
Bok Sevens legend Marius Schoeman (ironically nicknamed Shoes) the organiser of the event, is excited for the day and gave insight into which of the Sevens stars can match their skills on the rugby field with their skills on the golf course.
“The Golf Day will be the first in a number of planned events organised for the SA Sevens Trust and our preferred charity. We’re really aiming to make our event stand out from the rest with great prizes and celebs attending. Not forgetting the good cause, we want all corporates and guests to come and enjoy one of the Western Cape’s most beautiful golf courses and mingle with the players at the prize giving which promises not to end early…
“MJ Mentz is probably our best golfer and Chase Minnaar always be on the green putting for par, whilst Cecil Africa is still begging someone to lend him clubs for the day and although Neil Powell is very old and grey, he will definitely contribute – he won’t make as many points as his age though. Kyle Brown will join you on the 19th hole for a Klipdrift Gold after the round rather than joining your fourball and Frankie Horne will not play unless he is allowed to break something or someone.”
Keen to join in on the fun? A fourball costs R5 000 and includes full green fees, a goody-bag, a golf shirt, half-way house meal, a guaranteed prize and a 3-course dinner.
The event sponsors are Klipdrift Gold and Cape Town Tourism.
