The Springboks Sevens this morning (SA-time) played to a 7 – 7 draw with Samoa in their final Pool D match.
Both sides, however, advanced to the Cup 1/4 final stage by virtue of their 1- 2-finish.
Samoa and South Africa finished on 8-points but the Bokke tops Pool D because of their superior points difference.
However, the BlitzBokke were given a scare when Series top-scorer Cecil Afrika has to leave the field with a bloodied nose.
The dread-locked speedster had just returned from a lengthy lay-off because of a cheek fracture sustained late last year.
The play-maker sustained the injury against Samoa through a tenacious, try-saving tackle near the left-hand corner.
At the time of writing, Afrika’s condition was not clear.
Update: Paul Treu believes that Cecil Afrika will continue playing at the USA 7s.
His injury is not serious (nothing broken).
Cheers to Nick Jordan from UR7s for the update from Vegas.
Tenacious defense like this by Branco Du Preez and Bernardo Botha stood the BlitzBokke in good stead.
