I recently received an invitation to join a FaceBook Cause to “Keep the IRB Sevens Rugby in George.”

Upon doing my due-diligence exercise (snooping) I found out the in 2011 the town of George will be celebrating their 200th birthday, while, should the South African Sevens stay in the Southern Cape town, it will the 10th consecutive event at Outeniqua Park.

Fans wrote the following:

For years I’ve been attending the IRB sevens in George. It is not only an event to watch rugby, but the spirit and meeting and greeting people is just so phenominal. The IRB sevens became an household name to the people of SWD.People from Cape Town and other cities who attended the sevens for the past 3-5 years in George reckon that this is the place to be and that they cannot see how it can be held in one of our big cities.Besides the fact that we’re benefitting economically,we’re also gaining more friendship and compatriots during the sevens. (Jerome Meyer)

Typical of SARU. When will they learn? If it aint broke, don’t fix it! Just leave the 7′s in George where it has been a success. (Richard Nash)

To date the Cause has attracted 573 members.  If you feel a kinship to the cause to keep the Emirates Airlines South African Sevens in George, you can find them by clicking here
