Last year, in the media box at the Cathay Pacific Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens, a punter challenged me by asking: “Isn’t the media supposed to be impartial?”
I gave him THAT look, pointed towards my Springbok Jersey (I was wearing it at the time) and said:
“Really, Boet? Are you laaik seriaaaas?!”
“Bloody Agent!” I added for added effect.
(OK, I made that last one up.)
On a more serious note, upon seeing the SARU list for Player of the Year nominees, we were going to post:
“Vote for Gio for Player of the Year.”
(The Gio in question being the BlitzBokke’s very own Gio Aplon.)
Jaaaa, this Boeta:
It is interesting to note that, while SARU has added a choose-from-list to their various line-ups, they have not for their “Sevens Player of the Year.”
However, Gio Aplon, being the most recent Springbok Sevens player to make it BIG (more like HUGE!) on the international rugby stage, were have no qualms about asking you to vote for Mister FleetFoot himself.
The Province youngster’s credentials speak for themselves, who are we to tell and try to motivate you to vote for him?!
To vote, log on to www.springboksupporter.co.za/Player-of-the-year-2010/Vote.asp make your selection from the five candidates and enter the draw to win a set of double tickets to the exclusive event.
In the interest of fairness, (Jaaa right!) the full list from SARU is as follows:
