In the first of the World Junior Championships semi-finals tonight, the Australian Under20 side beat their England counterparts by 28-16. Building on an exciting final pool game against the Springbok Under20′s, the Baby Wallabies used their Sevens stars as well as Matt Toomua (who has Super 14 experience) to great effect, setting England a solid target at half-time (20-8).
Tries for the Wallabies came courtesy of Toua and Morahan, while the exciting Sitauti added one more with a brilliant individual effort in the second half. Flyhalf Toomua again shone with the boot and contributed 13 points.
In a final “rear guard” attack of sorts, England had the final say and scored the last try in the dying seconds of the match.
A slap on the left-cheek from Christian Wade for a job well done!
Australia has never before won a World Junior title and the win sees them advancing to their first-ever Championship final.
In the second semi-final in Rosario, Argentina, South Africa’s Baby Boks take on New Zealand.
